Brookline schools have an excellent reputation. Some 7,023 students attend the public schools, which includes eight elementary schools (K-8) and one high school. The town also operates an early education program called BEEP that has seven locations.
Students attend their neighborhood school as determined by the district. Some neighborhoods fall into buffer zones, which means a child may be placed in one of two or more schools. Since Brookline is a relatively small community, there are a number of streets that are close to more than one school. To illustrate this point, view the school district map.
Bus transportation to and from school is provided by the town free of charge if you live more than 1.5 miles from your assigned school.
A school committee consisting of 9 elected members serve three year terms. The school committee is responsible for evaluating the superintendent, reviewing and approving budgets for public education in the district, and to establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district.
