Pierce School is situated in the heart of Brookline Village, next door to Town Hall and steps from the Brookline Police Station. The area is home to a number of businesses, the very popular Brookline Teen Center, coffee shops, restaurants and preschools.
Pierce School serves the Brookline Village neighborhood and some 400 families. It is a diverse population with a wide socioeconomic range. It’s also one of the two schools to offer Mandarin as a World Language class.
Pierce is the second biggest school in Brookline by student enrollment. The main building, built in 1974, is an open structure that reflects the open classroom philosophy. The three-story school library serves as a hub for teaching and learning, as it is surrounded by mostly open classroom spaces.
The town recently passed a proposal to spend more than $200 Million on a new Pierce School. Construction began in the summer of 2024 and is planned to take about three and a half years to complete.
The Pierce playground has a baseball field, two basketball courts, and children’s playground that borders Harvard Avenue.
Pierce School is close to the MBTA Green Line D Train’s Brookline Village stop, and the 66 bus which goes to Alston, Harvard Square in Cambridge, the Longwood Medical area, Northeastern University, and Roxbury. The Brookline Village stop is a 4 minute walk from Pierce, while the 66 Bus stop on Harvard Street at the corner of Aspinwall Ave is across the street from the school.
Real estate in Brookline Village matches the diversity of Pierce’s students in part because of how broad an area the Pierce district encompasses. Students from Beacon to Boylston Street, and from Winthrop Road to Brookline Avenue attend Pierce. Homes in the Pierce School district are a mix of condominiums and single family homes. Brookline Village has an urban feel and families seeking a home in Brookline Village should not expect to find a home with a big yard.
