Baker School is located in South Brookline between Lagrange and Grove Street, close to Putterham Circle, Hammond Pond Parkway, Hammond Street, and Newton Street. The school is situated on a beautiful tree-lined street in a neighborhood of single-family homes about a quarter mile from Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course, Brookline’s public golf course.
Putterham Circle features a handful of businesses and restaurants as well as the Putterham Public Library. A short drive down Grove Street leads to more shops and restaurants including CVS, Bertuccis, J.P. Licks, and more.
Children from Chestnut Hill and South Brookline attend Baker School, which was fully renovated in 2000. As part of the renovation two new wings were added, creating a new library and cafeteria as well as more classroom space.
Baker features five outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court, and baseball field along with a playground for students. Behind the school is a 35 acre woodland sanctuary with trails, marshes and rock formations which provides students and residents with an instantaneous retreat from suburban living.
Baker is Brookline’s closest school to Newton, about a mile away, and is very close to Skyline Park, one of Brookline travel soccer’s home fields. It’s also near two popular youth club soccer team facilities in Newton, Valeo and The Boston Bolts, and the Newton Jewish Community Center (JCC), a popular facility for adults to workout and swim.
