Runkle School is located in the affluent neighborhood of Fisher Hill, surrounded by elegant Victorian homes on all four sides. The School is in a quiet part of Brookline, away from the commercial activities that take place in town. Fisher Hill itself is made up almost entirely of single family properties. However, a new senior living facility is under construction atop Fisher Avenue and scheduled to open some time in 2023, and the former Longyear Museum was converted into luxury condos in 2006. But Runkle serves more than just Fisher Hill families. There are a number of students from the Washington Square, Cleveland Circle communities as well. And these areas contain a mix of single family homes and condos.
Runkle School was rebuilt between 2010-2012 and reopened in the Fall of 2012. Its green space is comparatively small, with two distinct playgrounds (one on the side of the school that borders Chesham Road and the other in the back of the school along Clinton Road), one outdoor basketball court, and a modest, grass field that runs along Clinton Road.
The school is conveniently located to both the MBTA Green Line Subway C & D Lines. The D Line stop at Beaconsfield Road less than a quarter of a mile from the back of the school, while the C Line stop at Dean Road is a mere quarter of a mile away. Both lines take commuters into downtown Boston and the D Line stop at Longwood is the closest to the Longwood Medical Area.
